For those, wishing to explore Russia from the inside, railroad journeys seem to be one of the best ways to do that. Russia has a broad railway network, touching the most remote corners of the country.

High-speed Train Sapsan

It is pretty symbolic that the fastest train in Russia is named after the fastest bird in the world, the peregrine falcon, or Sapsan (this is how it sounds in Russian). The high-speed Sapsan flies on the most popular route in Russia, from Moscow to Saint Petersburg and reverse in as little as 3 and a half hours, reaching the speed of 250 kilometers per hour (or 155 mph).

The Sapsan train is one of the most modern and well-equipped trains in Russia, providing fast connections and a convenient schedule with multiple departures. The inside design features cozy seats, folding tables, and enough legroom, but, probably, visuals can say more than words, so here’s a detailed overview of the amazing iron bird, the Sapsan high-speed train.

International Alstom Train

Another Russian record holder in terms of speed is the modern Alstom train. This high-speed train connects the northern capital of Russia, St. Petersburg, with the capital of Finland, Helsinki, in only 3,5 hours.

The undeniable advantage of taking an Alstom train is the convenient procedure of customs control which is done on the go. In addition, the train offers a comfortable and spacious interior with cozy seats, adequate legroom, and luggage storage facilities, as well as a variety of onboard services including free WiFi, a restaurant car, and baby amenities. Red Arrow Overnight Train

Red Arrow is the legend and the classic of the Russian railways, boasting almost a 100-year history and connecting the two Russian capitals - Moscow and St. Petersburg. Following the tradition, the departure of Red Arrow is accompanied by patriotic songs broadcasted by the train station’s radio.

The train passes the distance of 650 km in 8 hours, and there are no other stops along the way except the start and endpoints. Red Arrow has only daily departure at 11:55 p.m. with an early arrival at 7:55 a.m. As the train is an overnight one, it has only sleeping cabins of 3 classes, each providing fresh bed linen, power sockets, and climate control.
