Why Visit the Capital of Kyrgyzstan

Bishkek, the capital of the Kyrgyz Republic, is the largest city of the country. Located in the Chui valley at the northern foot of the Kyrgyz Ala-Too, it is well-known for its charming atmosphere and exceptionally clear air.

Bishkek is not a traditional historical city of central Asia. The progenitor of the city the Pishpek fortress erected in 1825 to protect caravan routes running from Tashkent to Lake Issyk-Kul. The territory was later included into the Russian Empire's boundary and has undergone rapid development under the Soviet rule.

In spite of Bishkek's young age, there are many things to see and do during your Bishkek city tour. Among the prior must-sees of this city is the Ala-Too Square which is "the heart" of the Kyrgyz capital. Translated from Kyrgyz Ala-Too means snow mountain, symbolizing the country's nature as two-thirds of Kyrgyzstan is covered by mountainous terrain.

At the perimeter of the square, there is St. Nicholas Church, the State Historical Museum of Kyrgyzstan, the People's Friendship Monument, and the Oak Park housing the Museum of Sculptures. The square is centered with the 10-meter bronze statue of the national epic hero Manas. Moreover, the 45-meter high waving flag of Kyrgyzstan and the daily changing of the guard are the things you to can see.
