Why Visit Macreddin Village, Ireland

Welcome to one of the most scenic places in Ireland, the region of County Wicklow. Located in the breathtaking Wicklow Valley and surrounded by magnificent mountains, picturesque rivers, and deep lakes, Macreddin Village attracts nature lovers from all over the world. Hundreds of tourists every year choose this peaceful village over the bursting with energy cities to indulge in long walks, biking, fishing, and, of course, hiking. Dozens of fascinating landmarks are located in the village's area and one visit definitely won't be enough to explore them all.

You can start your Macreddin Village itinerary with a walking tour to the Glendalough Valley. Its name can be translated as "the Valley of Two Lakes" and as the name suggests, you'll walk along two gorgeous lakes surrounded by a fairytale forest, huge boulders, and steep cliffs. If you get tired of walking, there are plenty of abandoned ancient churches in the area, begging to take a closer look at. Also, you can pay a visit to the Wicklow Mountains National Park and take a picture of its major sight, the Monastic Site with a Round Tower.

Optionally, take your time exploring the tropes of the Trooperstown and the Paddock Hill. Find the traces of an ancient farming community, try to spot the Round Tower of Glendalough, and enjoy the panoramic views over the Avonmore River, and the Irish Sea.

Save some time for visiting the amazing Vale of Clara during your Macreddin Village trip. It's one of the few natural hardwood woodlands left in Ireland and a truly magical place, offering to enjoy some of the most spectacular views in the country. When you get tired of following the winding tropes of the valley, you can make a stop to pick up some forest blueberries, check out the charming church of Clara or have a picnic on the banks of the Avonmore River. After, you can proceed to contemplate the world-famous Avoca Woolen Mills.

Find inspiration, taking a stroll along the Bray Head Cliff. If you are feeling adventurous, you can go all the way up to the top of Bray Head and take in the stunning views over the Irish Sea, Wicklow Mountains, and Bray, a charming coastal town.

And no trip to the Bray Head Cliff would be complete without a visit to the Powerscourt Estate, the most famous House and Gardens in Irland.

The beautiful village of Aughrim is also one of the popular hiking destinations. Aughrim (or as locals call it "The Granite City") is known for the beautiful terraced houses made out of the Wicklow Granite. Also, the village is famous for being the multiple winner of the "Tidiest Small Town in Ireland" award.
