Why Visit Modena, Italy

Everyone agrees that the Colosseum is Rome's calling card, just as pizza is Naples', and stylish boutiques are Milan's. And although you might have never heard of the ancient town of Modena, you've definitely heard about its calling card, sports cars and the Motor Valley.

It's hardly a surprise that 4 brilliant supercar manufacturers are based in Italy, but the fact that Ferrari, Lamborghini, Pagani, Maserati (and previously Bugatti and De Tomaso) are all made within 24 km (15 mi) by Modena does strike as unlikely. This beautiful town, known as the "Supercar Capital" of the world, is the holy grail for petrolheads and a must-visit place for any car enthusiast.

The Museo Enzo Ferrari should be the first stop during your Modena trip. One of the most famous motoring journalists, Jeremy Clarkson, said: "If you want the best car in the world, you must have a Ferrari.

The BMW is an engineering masterpiece, but Ferrari is so much more than that, it has a soul." And there is no better place to explore the history of this car than the house where the father of Ferrari, Enzo Ferrari, was born. The museum tells the story of his work through various exhibitions, including the art gallery and a unique collection of the famous racing cars themselves. If you want to explore the supercar past even further, you can take a bus going from the Museo Enzo Ferrari to the Museo Ferrari in Maranello, nestled 19 km (12 mi) from Modena.

The Maserati Museum is a next "must" stop during Modena travel. There are several showrooms, displaying scale models of the brand's cars from various periods together with a few engines and body frames. There is a shop on the territory, selling various merchandise, such as signed vintage racing car posters, and you might want to sign up for a factory tour (free for the Maserati owners!)

The Lamborghini Museum invites to have a look at the brand's fascinating 50-year history and the iconic car models. It offers tours of the production line and a unique interactive experience due to the new driving simulator, magnifying the thrill of exploring the vehicles on display.

When you quench your supercar thirst, there are a lot of ways to spice up your Modena itinerary. Apart from Enzo Ferrari, the list of famous Modenesi includes the one and only Luciano Pavarotti.

The Museo Luciano Pavarotti, placed outside of Modena, offers to explore the exclusive details of operatic tenor's life and promises to leave you amazed by the amount of Pavarotti's hidden talents.

Just as Italy's culture is inextricably linked to pasta, one of Modena's legacies is the traditional balsamic vinegar. To kill two birds with one stone, you can enjoy the Cooking Experience and Balsamico Tour in Modena. The tour offers a chance to learn cooking the traditional Italian pasta, based just on eggs and flour, from professionals and to explore the extensive history of the king of vinegars (also, during the excursion, you get to taste balsamic vinegar that has been preserved for more than a century!)
