Set gracefully on the banks of the Isar River, the capital of Bavaria, Munich, is an amazingly beautiful city with an incredible history, colorful sights, and a lot in store to enchant and even surprise its visitors.
Munich is the third largest German city in terms of population and a popular tourist center of the country. It is one of the few cities whose name origins don't cause any controversies among historians, as "Munich" derives from the ancient German word "Munichen," literally translated as "monks." This is no coincidence because, according to historic records, it was in the 8th century when monks established their settlement here, on Peter's hill.
The city is home to a huge number of attractions a traveler simply can't miss during Munich tours. They include magnificent squares, the Nymphenburg Palace, St. Peter's Church and St. Michael's Church, the legendary Allianz Arena, the modern art gallery, and a lot more examples of Bavarian heritage. As for other places to see, consider checking out the Residenz Palace, Marien Square, Hofbrauhaus, and the Angel of Peace monument.
