One more authentic site to be added to your Syracuse itinerary is Latomia del Paradiso. Used for stone mining since the 6th century, this quarry is now turned into a landmark and visited by loads of tourists to admire its uniqueness each year.

Especially popular among them is the on-site artificial cave, called the Ear of Dionysius. Not only is it impressive in size but also has exceptional acoustic properties, for which the location got its name that's related to an ear. Legend has it, it was the cave tyrant Dionysus used to jail his prisoners.

The marvelous example of Baroque town planning, Piazza Duomo is not to be missed while strolling the city. Enclosed by the Palazzo Municipale, Palazzo Arcivescovile, Palazzo Beneventano, and Chiesa di Santa Lucia alla Badia, it is one of the most beautiful sites to be seen on a Syracuse tour. As a matter of fact, the square is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List!
