Why Visit the Kievo-Pecherskaya Lavra

Kievo-Pecherskaya Lavra is a renowned Orthodox monastery that is still in operation today. It dates back to the 11th century, where it was the first Christian temple of its size to be built on Russian lands.

Due to its cultural importance and breathtaking beauty, it is proudly featured as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visitors can enter the monastery to view the grand architecture, impeccable design, and golden accessories. While the monastery itself is massive, complex, and host to numerous underground caves, there are many accessible places for a tourist to explore.

One of the first things visitors notice is the gold-trimmed Great Lavra Belltower. When it was built, the Great Lavra Belltower was the tallest of its kind, and its presence can still be seen along the Kievan skyline. However, it is up close where its beauty truly shines.

On top of the hill is the Gate Church of the Trinity. Created in a Ukrainian Baroque style, this masterfully designed church is proudly regarded as one of Ukraine's main treasures. Inside, one can view the exceptional paintings that remain from the 18th century.

Outside, there are numerous oil paintings that remain on the walls as well. After exploring the Gate Church of the Trinity, visitors can explore the numerous other churches located around the Lavra. Due to its beauty and cultural impact, the Kievo-Pecherskaya Lavra is a must-see for tourists in Ukraine.
