Originally known by the name Sitaantaago, the Mendenhall Glacier spreads across 13 miles along the Mendenhall Valley and is located on the southeast side of Alaska, which is only a 12 mile ride from the downtown of Juneau.

The Tongass National Forest, which is where the Mendenhall Glacier is, is a sightseeing location on itself, being the largest U.S National Forest, covering an area of 16.7 million acres majority of which is rainforests.
