Enjoy the Changing of the Royal Guards

Observe the ceremony of the Royal Guard Changing in Copenhagen to witness the customs of the country firsthand. The unique experience differs depending on whom of the Royal Family resides in the Amalienborg Palace at the moment. If you hear the music of the Royal Guards music band during the daily changing of the guard, that means the Monarch is currently in the palace.

The Royal Guard was founded in 1658 by King Frederik III and consists of two parts, the infantry combat unit and the ceremonial unit, which is the one you can see changing guard by the Amalienborg Palace every day. They march through the city center of Copenhagen wearing dark blue uniforms, a bearskin with the regiment's cap badge, and a symbolic infantry sabre.
