The three-arch bridge as we see it now was built back in the 14th century, thus, strolling along its pedestrian pathway will surely take you back in time. As a matter of fact, the beautiful structure was actually the only bridge in entire Florence that withstood the demolitions of WWII. While fleeing Italy, the Germans bombed all the bridges in Florence, except for one. Several buildings on both its sides were destroyed instead, leaving Ponte Vecchio intact.
