Cross the Ponte Vecchio
Cross the beautiful Ponte Vecchio, outstretched over the Arno River in Florence, Italy. The three-arch bridge as we see it now was built back in the 14th century, thus, strolling along its pedestrian pathway will surely take you back in time. The picturesque construction and lovely colors make up for a postcard-like view indeed, and countless stories of the Ponte Vecchio only add to its authenticity.
As a matter of fact, the beautiful structure was actually the only bridge in entire Florence that withstood the demolitions of WWII. While fleeing Italy, the Germans bombed all the bridges in Florence, except for one. Several buildings on both its sides were destroyed instead, leaving Ponte Vecchio intact.
Before stepping foot onto the bridge, it is advisable to have your camera ready as every step of Ponte Vecchio will make you want to capture its beauty. Also, there are numerous shops in the area, therefore local currency might come in handy as well.
