Scandinavian Capitals and Fjords Tour

It seems to take a while to “recover” from such a marvelous trip! Indeed, we had a wonderful time! Some observations: First, guides: Our first guide was excellent. He was at all times a gentleman, friendly, joined in the enjoyment of the trip, and kept things well-organized, efficient, and essentially worry-free for us participants. We were particularly appreciative of his concern for and attention to our traveling companions, David & Barbara. He helped with their bags and made sure their needs were met. All of the local tour guides were good, but our group guide in Oslo, stood out! Her knowledge of the city and in particular the sights on the tour was excellent. In particular, her interpretations of the sculptures in the Vigeland Park enabled us to have a much better understanding of the sculptor and the thinking behind his sculptures. Second, the tour itself: We were most pleased with the format of the tour, specifically the relatively short, but very worthwhile city tours in each city, and the inclusion of a goodly amount of free time and optional additional tours/activities. This allowed for a very relaxed, low intensity experience (especially appreciated by those of us in the “geezer” category J). The varied modes of transportation between cities was most enjoyable. The two overnight ferry crossings were very relaxed and scenic (especially cruising through the islands in the Stockholm archipelago at sunset). The train trip from Oslo to Flam was spectacular, as was the trip from Flam to Bergen through the Fjords. Third, accommodations: All of the accommodations were quite satisfactory. The mix-up over the Oslo-Myrdal upgrade was not a problem at all; as it turned out, I’m not sure that the upgrade class would have been substantially different from the lower class.
