We had a wonderful trip. Both hotels were excellent boutique hotels in perfect locations.
However, the Hotel Liabeny in Madrid was on a small side street, and twice our taxi drivers could not find it. One driver literally shut off his meter because he was so lost even with our hotel business card..we appreciated his doing that! The other driver left me two blocks away, and I had to go to nearest hotel to find the way back to Hotel Liabeny.
Our guide was fantastic Saturday and Sunday, and the driver for part of Sunday was fine. She was very knowledgeable, a former opera singer speaking 5 languages. The Picasso Museum was great, and our guide was so informed. Unfortunately, it was raining when we walked Park Guell on Sunday, but we all made the most of it. We met the driver just fine at the exit. Our tour of Sagrada Familia was a highlight, and again our guide was so good and even took us to the best photo stop for us. Having the tickets purchased got us right in everywhere.
Monday, the driver was prompt at 2:00, and the train ride went very smoothly. The driver was waiting for us in Madrid and got us to the hotel quickly. La Boutin restaurant that evening was lovely, such a good recommendation within walking distance of hotel.
Wednesday's tour was a small group led by a guide, who was outstanding. We walked over to the other hotel to meet her and the pleasant group. The tour was the Madrid Bourbons, and we covered a lot of ground. The Park and Prado were lovely. She was so easy to listen to, and she gave a coherent history of the royalty of Spain.
Wednesday night we went to the Flamenco dinner and show. The food was fine but a bit expensive.
On Thursday we walked back to the Royal Palace. The tickets for us got us right in, and we were amazed with the overwhelming beauty.
All in all, this was a wonderful time in Spain. Again, thank you for all your help!
