Visit Andriyivskyy Descent in Kiev

Often compared to Montmartre in Paris, Andriyivskyy Descent is one of the Kiev's best paths for shopping, dining, and exploring on foot. Winding down the Zamkova Hora hill, the cobble-stone descent is a staggering 2,360ft in length.

Along the way, there are beautiful towns, shops, and grand cathedrals that must be seen to be believed. One of the most important sights is the Castle of Richard the Lionheart. This imposing castle towers on top of the hill, and across the way is the stunning St. Andrew's Church.

Going down further, one can find an assortment of museums and unique shops. Literature readers can explore Mikhail Bulgakov's house to see how the writer of The Master and Margarita lived. One Street Museum allows visitors to learn the history of Andriyivskyy Descent through artifacts and detailed stories.

While walking down, it is important to stop in any of the numerous cafes and restaurants. Many of the cafes have been in operation for generations, and their foods are cooked to perfection. Try a local pastry with some tea to rest like the locals, or order from one of the restaurants for a fine dining experience.

While the top of the hill provides a beautiful panorama of Kiev, the beauty lies in traveling down the windy road and into selected shops in order to find the prevailing spirit of Ukraine's cultural heritage.
