Lake Sevan is situated in the center of the Republic of Armenia. With the altitude of 1,900 m (6,200 ft) above sea level, it is one of the largest freshwater high-altitude lakes in the world. The Sevan National Park was founded in 1978 to protect the lake and the surrounding regions. Nowadays, it is a popular vacation destination and fishing attraction for the locals. The Sevanavank monastery complex is the main historic landmark in this region. It was built in 874 and used as a place to reform errant monks – where there was a strict regime in the 19th century. Today you can enjoy a commanding view of the beautiful Lake Sevan when and see the awe-inspiring historical restoration.
