Visit Lake Sevan in Armenia

Lake Sevan is situated in the center of the Republic of Armenia. With the altitude of 1,900 m (6,200 ft) above sea level, it is one of the largest freshwater high-altitude lakes in the world. Covering 940 sq km (363 sq mi) it is the largest one in the Caucasus region as well.

The Sevan National Park was founded in 1978 to protect the lake and the surrounding regions. Nowadays, it is a popular vacation destination and a fishing attraction for the locals. The lake is actually home to numerous different species, such as the crayfish or even the endangered ishkhan, also known as the Sevan Trout.

Sevanavank Monastery

What is more, the Sevanavank Monastery Complex is one of the main historic landmarks and tourist attractions in the region. It was built in 874 and used as a place to reform errant monks in the 19th century. Nowadays the monastery is not only a crucial part of the scenic landscape but also a great viewpoint providing some truly picturesque images of the lake as well.
