Visit Sigtuna in Sweden
Sigtuna is the oldest city in Sweden and was once the capital and religious center of the country during a certain period of time.
Sweden’s first town was founded by King Erik the Victorious in 980 AD beside Lake Malaren, northwest of Stockholm. Sigtuna’s rich and long-lived history can be observed through the medieval churches, ruins, rune stones and buildings that stand around the town to this day.

The cozy city charms its visitors by cobblestone streets, museums, churches that show and symbolize the transition between the Viking and medieval ages. It features beautiful buildings dating back to the 17th century, old Swedish houses, and even the first pedestrian street in the country.
If you want to delve deeper into the history of the city, make sure to visit Sigtuna’s Museum, featuring exhibitions telling the stories of the city. Sigtuna’s City Hall is also a monument worth exploring as it is the smallest city hall in entire Sweden.
It was also the site of the first Swedish mint were first Swedish coins were stamped. Sigtuna especially revives during the Christmas time as well as the four weeks of Advent when it is full of Christmas markets selling local handicrafts and delicacies.
