The Old Town also called Gamla Stan is Stockholm’s original city center which primarily consists of the island Stadsholmen. This part of town dates back to the 13th century but most buildings are from the 17- and 1800s. It is is one of the largest and best preserved medieval city centers in Europe. Whenever you visit Stockholm, the Old Town is an absolute 'must see' with its cobblestone streets, narrow alleys and old buildings. This extremely charming place with 700 years of history is the #1 tourist attraction in the capital of Sweden.
There are several beautiful churches and museums including the country’s national cathedral - Stockholm Cathedral, the Nobel Museum and the famous Royal Palace. There are also many cafés, restaurants, tourist shops and galleries in the Old Town which make it a perfect combination for a cultural, historical and relaxing experience.
We would suggest spending at least half a day in this charming part of Stockholm.
