The Christiansborg Palace is one of the most fascinating buildings of Denmark, boasting great historical and political value.
Located on a tiny island called Slotsholmen in the heart of Copenhagen, it is connected to the city by bridges and canals. Even though the place was used by kings and queens to rule their country for centuries before, the palace as we know it now was only completed in 1928.
The palace houses the main institutions of the nation: it is the seat of the Danish Parliament, the Supreme Court, and the Prime Minister's office, making it the only building in the world where all three branches of government work under one roof. Did you know, that is was once the Royal Apartments as well?
The beauty of the building and its extremely charming interior make it a very popular tourist attraction. The most imposing room in the palace is The Great Hall, housing the Queen's tapestries. The Royal Reception Rooms also include The Oval Throne Room used for reception of foreign ambassadors and The Tower Room. There is also a balcony used for the proclamation of the Danish monarchs.
If you hold a ticket to the Royal Reception Rooms, you are entitled to a free guided tour of the premises. Make sure to visit the restaurant with Authentic Danish cuisine served in really fab surroundings.
