Visiting the Florence Duomo is an absolute must while in the city. The remarkable Renaissance cathedral dates back to the 13th century and is currently one of the most popular stops on any Florence itinerary.
The exterior of the iconic landmark features an intricately decorated facade with a mix of white, pink, and green marble, and an imposing dome. Designed by Filippo Brunelleschi, the dome was only added later, however, it has become an inseparable part of the cityscape of Florence.
One of the most extraordinary elements of the interior of the cathedral are the frescoes of the Last Judgement by Giorgio Vasari. The detailed images were all designed by Vasari, however, a student of his, Frederico Zuccari, has helped to paint it and make it all come to life. It is surely a sight to remember!
Step inside the Duomo to also admire the unique clock hanging above the entrance door, designed by Paolo Uccello. It is actually the only clock in the world showing the Ora Italica (the Italian Time), according to which the day starts at sunset and ends at sunset too. Take the time to figure out what time of the day it is by analyzing its mechanisms in the beautiful cathedral
