Sink into the Hassan II Mosque in Morocco
The second-largest mosque in the world, just after the famous and iconic Mecca, the Hassan II Mosque - the undoubted pride of Morocco - is located on the picturesque shores of the Atlantic Ocean. It's actually unique in its architecture and size. The minaret is 210 meters high, much higher than the pyramid of Cheops. The mosque was built in 1993 thanks to the royal will to provide the city of Casablanca a great spiritual and civilizational monument of Morocco, to give it a harmonious urban development and allow it to increase its radiance and influence. The Hassan II Mosque is so huge that 25,000 worshippers can pray inside it simultaneously and another 80,000 in the square beside it.
This superb building was designed by the French architect Michel Pinceau. Six thousand Moroccan craftsmen worked on the construction of this masterpiece for 7 years. The materials used to build the Great Mosque (wood, granite, marble, plaster, etc.) were brought from different regions of the country. And only the white granite for the columns and the glass chandeliers were brought from Italy. The mosque building is so beautiful and rich that its appearance resembles a real palace. And inside it, spirituality and modern technology are beautifully combined.
