The Iconic Notre-Dame Cathedral

Depicted on nearly all of the postcards in Paris, the iconic Notre-Dame Cathedral is one of the major attractions in France and an exceptional example of the rich French heritage.
Notre-Dame Fire
Damaged by fire in the spring of 2019, the cathedral has lost its medieval roof and the spire, which has been a crucial part of the cityscape in Paris for years. However, the rest of the monumental pieces still stand and the landmark will be rebuilt to open its doors widely to the public again soon.
History & Facts
Located on the Ile de la Cite in the heart of the city, the Gothic masterpiece dates back to the 12th century. It features intricately detailed carvings and other forms of decor, both inside and out. One of the most awe-inspiring parts of the landmark is undoubtedly the western facade. Featuring a large rose in between towers reaching 63 meters (207 ft) in height, it also boasts a row of 28 of Kings and numerous other sculptures.
While admiring the exterior of the cathedral, pay attention to the numerous elaborate portals, such as the Sainte-Anne Portal, the Portal of Judgement or the Portal of the Virgin. Even though lost in the fire, the sky-crossing spire was once an inseparable part of the cathedral along with the copper statues of the 12 Apostles on it. However, there are more praise-worthy figures located in the heights of the church just as are the statues of gargoyles another a crucial part of the Notre-Dame Cathedral.
In addition to that, the renowned cathedral also houses the largest organ in France, with 5 keyboards and 8000 pipes.
