Trolltunga, Norway

Why Visit the Trolltunga in Norway

When thinking of the most striking views in Norway, it's impossible to skip scenic Trolltunga, one of the most breathtaking cliffs in entire Scandinavia.

Unique Trolltunga is set 1100 meters (3608 feet) above the sea and 700 meters (2297 feet) above the untouched lake Ringedalsvatnet. It's not hard to imagine that the view is just gorgeous and definitely worth the travel!

As for the name, Trolltunga translates as a "trolls tongue" and it's believed that the cliff got its name from a troll who didn't turn into stone when the sun shined at him, as the legends say. In reality, Trolltunga Norway represents an ancient formation that appeared due to the glacier erosion about 10 000 years ago. Trolltunga is located 17 km (10.5 miles) from the municipality of Odda in Hordaland county and the hiking trail to it is quite a challenging one.

To get to the cliff, a traveler should climb about 900 meters (2953 feet). However, the risky ascent is nothing in comparison with majestic landscapes you are going to see.
