Discovering Ancient Rome

In the morning, after a delicious breakfast at your hotel, you meet with your knowledgeable guide to begin your fascinating walking tour of the famous ancient treasures of the Eternal City.

Your first stop today is the awe-inspiring Roman Forum, an archaeological site that served as the political, ritual, and civic center of ancient Rome for over a thousand years. Here, you will walk through the remnants of ancient temples, arches, and buildings that date back over 3,000 years. The ruins you will see include the Temple of Caesar, where Julius Caesar was cremated, and the Arch of Septimius Severus, a triumphal arch that commemorates the victories of the Roman Empire.

Next, you will head to Rome's most iconic site - the Colosseum, a colossal amphitheater that is one of the most famous landmarks in the world. Originally called the Flavian Amphitheatre, it was built almost 2,000 years ago and could seat up to 70,000 spectators. This imposing structure was the site of many public spectacles, including gladiatorial contests, wild animal hunts, and even mock naval battles.

After the tour, your guide will accompany you back to your hotel, and you will have the evening to yourself to relax and explore the city at your leisure.

Vatican Sightseeing

In the morning, following a delicious breakfast, you are picked up by your guide and chauffeured to the heart of Vatican City, the walled enclave and the world's smallest independent state.

Upon arrival, you begin your Vatican tour, visiting the private apartments of Julius II and admiring the exquisite Pinecone Courtyard, the Gallery of the Maps, the Gallery of the Tapestries, and the Gallery of Candelabra, all of which are adorned with some of the world's most beautiful art pieces.

Your next stop is the stunning Sistine Chapel, where you have ample time to marvel at Michelangelo's breathtaking frescoes and learn about the intense relationship between Pope Julius II and Michelangelo that led to the creation of one of the world's greatest works of art.

After a refreshing coffee break, you continue to the vast open spaces of St. Peter's Basilica, where you witness Michelangelo's famous Pieta, one of the most famous works of Renaissance sculpture, and Bernini's magnificent Papal Canopy, a legacy left to the Basilica by the Barberini family.

Your tour ends at St. Peter's Square, where you are left to admire Michelangelo's Dome and the magnificent colonnades designed by Bernini.

As your Vatican tour concludes, your guide takes you on a leisurely walk back to the hotel, where you stop for a photo op at the legendary Castel Sant'Angelo, originally built as a mausoleum and later used by the popes as a fortress, refuge, and prison.

Upon returning to the hotel, you have the rest of the day to explore Rome at your leisure. Please note that the Vatican is a sacred religious site, and visitors are expected to dress appropriately, which means no shorts, no uncovered knees and shoulders, and no backpacks.
