Lugo - Ferreira
Today marks the first day of your Camino Primitivo journey—best of luck as you set off on this historic and rewarding path! Leaving Lugo, the trail guides you past the magnificent Cathedral and through the Porta Miñá, the oldest gate in the city’s Roman wall, named after the nearby Miño River. This symbolic departure point has welcomed countless pilgrims for centuries.
You will then make your way through the San Lázaro quarter and cross the old Roman Bridge, a beautiful reminder of Lugo’s ancient origins. A few kilometers further, you’ll reach one of the day’s true highlights: Santa Eulalia de Bóveda, a national monument and museum. This extraordinary site houses some of the most remarkable early medieval paintings in the entire Iberian Peninsula—an unforgettable stop for history lovers.

Reaching Ferreira
After completing your first stage of the Camino Primitivo, take the rest of the day to relax and appreciate the peaceful atmosphere of Ferreira, a tiny rural village nestled in the Galician countryside. Though small, Ferreira is a welcome haven for pilgrims—quiet, authentic, and surrounded by fields, farms, and gentle rolling hills.

Ferreira - Melide
Today, you continue your Camino journey as you leave Ferreira and head toward Melide.
Today, your journey follows along the ancient tracks that have been in use for centuries, connecting charming rural villages and hamlets such as Seixalvo, Xende, Ferreira, and Merlán.
As you approach Toques and continue onward to Melide, you will notice the rhythm of the Camino shifting. Here, the Original Way joins the Camino Francés, and the number of fellow pilgrims on the trail increases.

Reaching Melide
Welcome to Melide, a charming town with deep-rooted Camino traditions!
This is your final destination for today. After your walk, take some time to relax and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of this historic town. Take the opportunity to savor ‘pulpo’ (Galician octopus) at one of the town’s renowned pulperías, and don’t forget to try a few ‘melindres’, Melide’s traditional aniseed-flavored cakes—a perfect treat to celebrate your day’s walk.

Melide - Arzúa
Today, you continue your pilgrimage on the Camino Francés , now walking alongside fellow pilgrims as you leave Melide behind. The trail takes you along serene forest tracks, across babbling streams, and through lush meadows, offering a peaceful rhythm to your journey.
You will pass through the quaint village of Boente, where the charming Santiago Church welcomes visitors with its historic character. Continuing along the trail, the picturesque village of Ribadiso offers a perfect spot to pause and soak in the tranquil beauty of the Galician countryside.

Reaching Arzúa
Welcome to Arzúa, a charming town celebrated for its warm Camino spirit and famous local cheese!
This is your final destination for today. Take some time to relax, wander through the town’s inviting streets, or unwind in one of its cozy cafés and bakeries. Arzúa is renowned for the church of Santa María and the church of A Magdalena in town.
With its friendly atmosphere and rich pilgrim tradition, Arzúa provides the perfect place to rest and recharge before continuing on the final stages of your journey to Santiago de Compostela.

Arzúa - Pedrouzo
Today’s stage of the Camino leads you through tranquil forests and quaint rural hamlets, offering a peaceful and reflective walking experience. Along the way, you will encounter the charming chapel of Santa Irene, home to fascinating St. James statues that connect pilgrims to the spiritual heritage of the route.
The trail continues along quiet country roads, allowing you to immerse yourself in the serene Galician countryside.

Duration: 5-6 hours hiking
Reaching Pedrouzo
Welcome to Pedrouzo, a charming village nestled in the heart of Galicia and a beloved stop on the Camino.
This is your final destination for today. Take some time to relax and wander through the village’s quiet streets, or enjoy a peaceful break at one of the local cafés. Pedrouzo is dotted with traditional hórreos (granaries) and granite farmhouses, offering a glimpse into the region’s rich rural heritage.

Pedrouzo - Santiago de Compostela
Today marks the final stage of your pilgrimage. Leaving Pedrouzo, you begin your last ascent toward the legendary city of Santiago de Compostela.
The trail leads you through Amenal and onward to Lavacolla, a place steeped in pilgrim tradition—its name recalls the centuries-old practice of pilgrims washing in the river here before completing their journey. As you continue, the path to Monte do Gozo, or the “Mount of Joy,” is lined with towering eucalyptus trees, offering shade and a sense of anticipation for the arrival ahead. At the summit, a striking sculpture commemorates the visit of Pope John Paul II, a reminder of the spiritual significance of this sacred route.
From Monte do Gozo, the Camino gently descends into Santiago de Compostela. You will enter the city along the bustling Rúa de San Pedro and pass through the historic Porta do Camiño to step into the heart of the old town, completing a journey that has been centuries in the making.
