Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Istanbul

Today you arrive in Istanbul. Our driver will meet you at the airport and transfer you to the central hotel where you will have a Welcome Dinner and meet the rest of your group.

Day 2: Istanbul Sightseeing Tour

This day is dedicated to exploring the gorgeous heart of Turkey's culture, economy, history and social life, Istanbul. Sights included in today's program are the Blue Mosque (an unparalleled 1616 masterpiece), the Haghia Sophia, and the Topkapi Palace.

Highlight of the Day: A memorable dinner while cruising along the Bosphorous on a cozy boat.

Day 3: Driving to Ankara

Today you will cover the first 580 km from your 4400 km journey. After a short orientation session we will drive to Ankara, the modern capital of Turkey. Our arrival is scheduled at the late afternoon and check in to a boutique hotel near the old city of Ankara.

Day 4: Touring Ankara

The program for today includes a visit to the ancient citadel "Hisar", where according to the legend an anchor was found, from which the city took its name "Ancyra". There's plenty to see inside: from the old Turkish houses to the ancient ruins to traditional bazaar, called "bedesten". After lunch we will visit the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations where you'll get a chance to learn about all of the cultures that have passed through this area: from the Hittites, the Phrygians, Lydians and Persians to the Galatians, Romans, Byzantines, Seljuk Turks and Ottomans.

Day 5: Driving to Cappadocia

After another 530 km behind you will arrive to a very unique and special cave hotel in a small village of Cappadocia. Lunch en route.

Day 6: Cappadocia Sightseeing

Entire day of sightseeing starts from a visit to the enchanting "fairy chimneys" (conical and unusual rock formations) in Devrent Valley. Next on our list is the Goreme Open Air Museum, where you will see the finest examples of religious frescoes in 10th-13th century churches cut directly in the rock. The second half of the day is all about breathtaking views. Enjoy Pasabag Valley, Avanos, the centre of terra cotta work, and a visit to Derin kuyu underground city.

Day 7:  Driving to Malatya

Prepare yourself for the next 430 km in your Land Rover for today we drive to Malatya. Upon arrival you will check in to your cozy hotel.

Optional hot-air balloon tour is available early in the morning (weather permitting).

Day 8: Driving to Mt. Nemrut

After breakfast we will drive to a town called Kâhta, in the foot of the mountain. There you will get a chance to taste authentic local cuisine. After that we will continue to our hotel in Mt. Nemrut.

After 150km of driving have a little rest in the afternoon. Closer to sunset we will visit the magnificent ruins and stone statues, as well as some Kurdish villages in the surrounding area.

Day 9:  Mt. Nemrut - Gobekli Tepe - Batman

Leaving the mountain, we will head east to Batman located near the famous Hasankeyf, an ancient town by the Tigris River. En route, we will stop at the Gobekli Tepe, an archaeological site where the remains of the ancient temple were found by Klaus Schmidt, a German archaeologist who is still conducting his research here looking for the ancient truths about the place.

After exploring this breathtaking site we will drive to Batman. It used to be a small village, but after the oil was discovered here in the 1940's Batman and the surrounding area developed at a very fast pace. The arrival is scheduled at the late afternoon. Evening at leisure.

Day 10: Batman - Hasankeyf – Van

Following breakfast we take a 30 km drive to visit the famous archaeological site of Hasankeyf, an ancient city known since 1800 BC. During its Golden Age Hasankeyf was one of the main hubs of the Great Silk Road. We arrive in Van in the evening.

Day 11: Van - Dogubayazit

After breakfast in the morning, we venture to the Akdamar church, built on a remote island in the middle of the lake. To get there, we will get on the boat and swim to the middle of the Lake Van. This area used to be the center of the ancient kingdom called Urartu. It was a thriving culture with well developed trade and handicraft. Lots of goods produced here were then imported to the mainland Greece and Italy.

After the boat ride you will have an opportunity to take a walk through the ancient city of Van with a beautiful citadel located at the foot of the rock.

One of today's highlights is a lunch by the Muradiye Waterfalls.

After a short drive we will find ourselves in the town of Dogubayazit located at the Armenian border. Enjoy astonishing views of the Mount Ararat, stroll along the beautiful streets and visit the Ishak Pasa Palace. If the sky is clear, we will have a chance to enjoy the nice view of Ararat.

Day 12: Dogubayazit – Kars

Today we are to set out to the North and drive 190 km from Dogubayazit to Kars past the picturesque sight of volcano. Upon arrival to Kars you check in the hotel.

Day 13: Visit to the Ani Ruins & Kars City Tour

This is your last day in Turkey. After breakfast you visit one of the most interesting and historical sights of the ancient Silk Road - the Ani ruins located 45 km outside of Kars. You have the chance to explore this amazing ruined medieval Armenian city and see its still preserved fortified walls, numerous churches, mosques and caravan-serais.

After the tour you return to Kars and enjoy a short guided tour of the city visiting its Castle (also known as the Citadel), an impressive 12th-century Seljuk fortress and a 10th-century Armenian Church of Apostles that now is used as a Turkish mosque under the name Kumbet Camii.

Day 14: Kars – Akhalkalaki, Georgia

Following breakfast we will leave Kars and cross into Georgia. You'll spend an overnight in Akhalkalaki. This city is the center of a historical region called Samtskhe-Dzhavakhetia located in the utmost southwest of Georgia. It is located in a beautiful setting surrounded by a high-mountainous area of Alpine meadows with crystal water springs. Along the way we see an ancient fortress.

Day 15: Akhalkalaki – Yerevan, Armenia

After breakfast prepare yourself for another part of our journey. Today we cross the Georgia - Armenia border. Upon arrival to Yerevan, the capital of Armenia, you can enjoy some free time in this beautiful city.

Day 16: Yerevan

Today's program includes a full day of sightseeing of Yerevan's countless attractions: the Church of St. John, also known as Mastara Church, the picturesque Avan Canyon, Garni architectural complex dating back to the 1st century and the cave monastery of Geghard.

Day 17: Yerevan – Sevan Lake – Dilizhan

Following in the footsteps of ancient merchants we will drive through Southern Armenia towards the town of Ararat. While driving, enjoy a spectacular view of the Caucasus mountains. The ride is long and we are going to make a short stop at a caravanserai (a roadside inn where travelers can rest and recover from the day's journey).

Other highlights of today include a visit to the Hayravank Monastery and Noraduz Village close to the town of Gavar. After a full day of driving and exploring Armenia's historical and cultural gems, we will reach a spa-town of Dilizhan by Sevan Lake and spend two nights there.

Day 18: Dilizhan

This area of Armenia is known as the "Little Switzerland". It is a spa resort located in a heart-stoppingly beautiful area of Armenia. Apart from that, lots of Armenia's hidden gems can be found here. And we will surely explore them during the day. Today's program includes a visit to the Dilizhan National Park, a 12th century monastery, as well as some hiking by the Lake Sevan. In the evening we visit a hidden Molokan village and have a dinner in the local family.

Day 19: Sevan Lake – Tbilisi, Georgia

Today we drive northbound towards Georgian border and arrive in Tbilisi by the afternoon.

Day 20: Tbilisi, Georgia

Enjoy a full day of sightseeing of Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia. We take a walk around the old town, Kala, visit centuries-old churches, treasuries of museums and plenty other cultural and religious attractions.

Day 21: Tbilisi – Sighnaghi

Today we take a drive eastbound to the city of Sighnaghi. You explore the wine region of Kakheti. This part of Georgia is known as a birthplace of the local wine-making traditions.

Here you can savour over 500 varieties of wine while enjoying breathtaking views of Kizikhi area and unusual Charm of Sighnaghi Royal Town. Take a walk in narrow streets of the town in shadow of wooden balconies richly decorated with the lace of carved ornaments.

Day 22: Sighnaghi – Sheki, Azerbaijan

We are reaching the final stage of the tour: Azerbaijan. Today you cross the border at the Lagodekhi border post, and continue on to Sheki located in about 160 km from the border. Upon arrival you check into a hotel converted from an ancient caravanserai and enjoy some fine home-made wine and a meal at a local family.

Day 23: Sheki

Today you explore Sheki, one of the most ancient settlements and a cultural centre of Azerbaijan. According to the scholars Sheki was founded more than 2700 years ago at the southern slopes of the Major Caucasus Mountains Chain (370 kilometres to the north-west from Baku). During its turbulent history the town used to be devastated many times. So today the majority of historical and architectural monuments date back to the 16th-19th centuries.

During our tour of Sheki you see the magnificent Royal Palace of Sheki Khans (Kings) constructed without a single nail in 1762. It is one of the most astonishing monuments of the region so make sure to take lots of photos. In the afternoon, we drive to a village 40 km away from Sheki to see an ancient fortress.

Day 24: Sheki - Baku

We're close to the final part of your 4400 km journey. Today we are driving to Baku through the Muganly Mountain Pass. Photo stops on the most beautiful viewpoints on the mountains are planned.

Upon arrival to Shamakhi, you are taken on a tour of the historical mosque Juma and mausoleum of Yeddi Gumbez. We also visit Diri Baba mausoleum in Maraza village. Arrival to Baku is planned for the late afternoon.

Day 25: Baku

After breakfast you go on a full day of Baku sightseeing. Your city tour includes a visit to Memory Alley - “Shehidler Khiyabany” - where you can enjoy a panoramic view of Baku city from the park, a visit to the State Carpets museum, medieval fortress of Old Baku, the complex of Shirvanshahs Palace, medieval caravanserai and more.

Day 26: Departure from Baku
