City tour
City tour

After a delicious breakfast in the hotel, your day will be dedicated to exploring the City of Greek Wisdom, Athens. You meet your guide and driver to make your way to the biggest and most important necropolis in the city, Kerameikos. In ancient times, the age-old walls of Athens, constructed in the 5th century B.C., divided the area into two parts: The Inner Kerameikos (the potters' quarter which formed the English word "ceramic") and the Outer Kerameikos (the site of an important cemetery and many funerary sculptures)

The next point of your journey through the city is the magnificent Temple of Olympian Zeus & Hadrian's Arch (short visit). This colossal ruined temple, dedicated to Zeus, king of the Olympian gods, was the largest temple in Greece during the Roman period. 104 colossal columns once stood there, forming a mighty structure.

Then you continue your tour to the Panathenaic Stadium, often referred to as Kallimarmaro (translated as "beautifully marbled"). This ancient stadium was the exact place where the first modern Olympic games were held back in 1896. Then, you make your way to the highest hill of Athens Lycabettus, which appears in various legends.

Another highlight of your travel today is the Royal Palace and today's Parliament, with the elite unit known as the Evzones in their picturesque uniforms guarding the Memorial of the Unknown Soldier. Continue with a drive along Panepistimiou Avenue to get a glimpse of the beauty of the most famous Athenian NeoClassical buildings before arriving at the Ancient Agora of Athens which is among the finest examples of classic Greek architecture that has made it to our days practically intact.

After the tour, you are transferred back to your hotel and have the remaining part of the day free.

Climbing down the Acropolis hill you reach the New Acropolis Museum which is among the most important contemporary works of architecture in Athens (entrance ticket included). The last level (The Parthenon room) has the dimensions and the direction of the Parthenon, and it is been rotated by 23 degrees in relation to the rest of the building so that the visitors would have an immediate view of the monument.
