Bay Of Islands Discovery

Upon arrival in Paihia, embark on a 4.5-hour guided catamaran cruise, exploring the pristine waters and the 144 islands of the Bay of Islands. Keep an eye out for dolphins and other marine life as you sail through this spectacular region.

Highlights of the cruise include a visit to the famous Hole in the Rock on Motukokako Island at the tip of Cape Brett Peninsula. You’ll also have a stopover at Urupukapuka Island, where you can relax on the beach or hike to the summit for panoramic 360° views.

Hobbiton Movie Set Tour and Matamata &  Maori Hangi Dinner and Performance
Your Hobbiton tour starts with a scenic drive across the Kaimai Ranges to the small town of Matamata. 

Just outside the town of Matamata is your destination: Middle-earth! Sir Peter Jackson and his team knew this private farm would make the perfect spot to build the village of Hobbiton for the award-winning The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit movie trilogies. 

Take a guided tour and see the picturesque village you saw on screen in living colour before you.See the Hobbit holes, the Green Dragon Inn, the Party Tree, the Mill and many other structures from the movies, while learning about how the set was built. 

You might even hear a few secrets from behind the scenes! 

In the evening you will see a cultural performance and take part in a traditional Maori ‘hangi’ feast at Tamaki Maori Village. You will be transferred to ‘marae’ (Maori village) for an immersive evening that begins with a welcome ceremony by New Zealand's indigenous people. Learn about local customs and watch a powerful display of song and dance before a hangi dinner. 

Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland
This stunning geothermal park amazes visitors with its diversity in colour ranging from bright orange to emerald greens. 

The park’s landscape is scattered with a huge variety of thermal activity; steaming lakes, bubbling mud and other fascinating terrain. Important not-to-miss highlight of the Wai-O-Tapu guided day tour is the “Mud Pool”. This feature was the site of a large mud volcano which was destroyed through erosion in the 1920′s. It now provides an opportunity to experience the captivating noise of bubbling mud. 

Walk through this wonderland via clearly defined tracks and enjoy the diversity of this area through a series of different walks taking from 30 to 75 minutes or more, each with their own unique volcanic vistas to fascinate all ages.

You'll begin with a visit to Courtenay Place and the Embassy Movie Theatre, famed for hosting world premieres of iconic movies such as "The Hobbit". 

The journey continues to Mt Victoria, where you'll be treated to breathtaking views of the city and harbor. This spot also serves as a gateway to the 'Green Belt', a lush forest area where several scenes from the movies were filmed. As the tour progresses, you'll head to 'Wellywood', the heart of Wellington's film studios and post-production facilities. 

A highlight of this segment is the Weta Workshop, known for its exceptional work in prop-making and special effects. Here, you will have the chance to explore the 'Windows into Workshop' exhibition, offering a behind-the-scenes look at the creation of physical props and makeup used in famous films.

Zelandia With Cable Car Experience

Your driver will pick you up from the hotel and bring you to Lambton Quay to take the Cable Car to the top of the Botanic Gardens. From there, it's approximately a 30-minute walk to Zealandia, or you can take the free shuttle.

Upon arrival at Zealandia, you will join experienced guides on an engaging and informative walk through the picturesque sanctuary to witness the native wildlife that has returned to the mainland. With everything in Zealandia living wild, our nature-guru guides will use their knowledge of birdsong, habitats, and local flora to track down even the rarest of our unique animals.
