Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Bucharest & City Tour

Welcome to the beautiful capital of Romania - Bucharest! Upon arrival you are met by your private guide and driver at the airport and transferred to your centrally located hotel.After check-in your guide takes you on a panoramic city tour of the historical center of Bucharest. You have the unique chance to see the most interesting and important city landmarks, including the famous Arch of Triumph modelled after the legendary Arc de Triomphe in Paris, the Romanian Athenaeum that is the premier concert hall of the country, and Revolution Square with the statue of King Carol I set between the former Royal Palace and the University Library.Then you continue exploring the unique flavour of the old town of Bucharest on foot enjoying the beauty of its charming Lipscani district abundant in cozy outdoor restaurants, handmade souvenir shops, cobbled pedestrian streets and historical buildings and churches, including the oldest church in Bucharest Curtea Veche dating back to the 16th century.

Optional tour # 1: Visit to the real gem of Bucharest - the iconic Palace of Parliament that is the second largest administrative building in the world after the Pentagon.

Optional tour # 2: Visit to an open-air Village Museum that possesses the total collection of more than 300 original countryside structures that represent the traditional Romanian village lifestyle.In the evening you return to your hotel in Bucharest.

Day 2: Trip to Curtea de Arges & Transfer to Sibiu

After breakfast you continue your journey further to heart of the country and its most mysterious historic region Transylvania. Your first stop awaits you in Targoviste - the former capital of the historical region of Romania, Wallachia. It is here where Vlad the Impaler, the ruler of Wallachia and a living personification of the legendary Count Dracula created by the Irish novelist Bram Stoker, had his court for 7 years. Your tour continues to Curtea de Arges where you visit the famous Episcopal Church and the ruins of the Poenari Castle. The history of this castle is closely connected with Vlad the Impaler who repaired the once abandoned castle and made it one of his main fortresses. So to some extent this historical treasure can be considered the true Dracula's castle. After the tour you venture to Sibiu that used to be the largest and wealthiest citadel built in the 12th by Transylvanian Saxons. The highlight of the drive is crossing the spectacular Oltului Valley and enjoying its pristine nature and amazing sceneries.Overnight in the hotel in Sibiu.

Day 3: Sibiu, Hunedoara & Alba Iulia City Tours

After breakfast you meet your private guide at the hotel and go to see the most interesting landmarks of the old town of Sibiu, including Large Square and Small Square, city walls and defense towers, and the Bridge of Lies - Romania's oldest cast-iron bridge. Later you proceed to the city of Hunedoara where you visit its famous Corvin Castle that is considered the most impressive and best preserved gothic castle in Romania. The legend has it that Vlad the Impaler was imprisoned in this castle by the Hunyadi family for seven years. This is the great chance to see the place where Vlad III go insane and learned the craft of impaling.Your next destination is Alba Iulia - one of the oldest settlements in Romania. During your sightseeing tour you will discover the historical, cultural and architectural places of interest of this impressive city, including the Roman Catholic Cathedral, the Batthyaneum Library, the Babilon Building, the Union Hall, the Apor Palace and the Princely Palace. After the tour you return in Sibiu for overnight.

Day 4: Trip to Borgo Pass & Bistrita City Tour

After breakfast you depart to Borgo (Tihuta) Pass - a legendary gateway to the realm of Count Dracula. You start with a visit to a small but lively city of Turda to visit its most famous landmark - the Salt Mine, that is an original museum of salt mining in Transylvania (paid entrance).Your next destination is Bistrita - a historical city located at the foot of the Bargau Mountains. During your panoramic tour your guide will show you the most interesting sights of the city, including the Coopers’ Tower, the Saxon Evangelical Church and the Sugalete row of 15th and 16th century merchants’ houses.After the tour you can visit the Golden Krone Hotel and taste the same dinner Jonathan Harker - the leading character of Bram Stoker's novel - ate there, before continuing his journey to the Dracula’s castle. Overnight in Bistrita or Borgo Pass at the Castel Dracula Hotel, located at the approximate site of the fictional Dracula's castle.

Day 5: Targu Mures & Sighisoara City Tours

After breakfast at the hotel you travel to Targu Mures to enjoy a guided panoramic tour around this unique city that combines the influence of both Romanian and Hungarian cultures with the historical heritage of Neolithic cultures, Bronze and Metal Ages. Later you visit Biertan village that is considered one of the first Saxon settlements in Transylvania. It is famous for being home to the most significant of the seven UNESCO-enlisted Saxon fortified churches in the entire Romania - the Biertan Church (paid entrance). The final destination of this day is Sighisoara - one of the best preserved medieval cities in Europe and the birthplace of Vlad the Impaler. Upon arrival you have a guided walking tour around the most outstanding city attractions, including the Clock Tower, the Weapon Museum, the Covered Staircase, the Evangelic Church on the Hill and the cemetery. Overnight in your hotel in Sighisoara.

Day 6: Trip to Saschiz & Viscri Villages & Brasov City Tour

After breakfast you head to the village of Saschiz to see its most treasured gem - the famous Saschiz Fortified Church (paid entrance). Later you continue your journey to Viscri village where you will visit the most interesting Saxon fortress in Transylvania - the Viscri Fortified Church (paid entrance).The final destination of this day is the city of Brasov - one of the most popular tourist attractions in Transylvania that boasts of well-preserved historical city center, finger-licking cuisine and breathtaking landscapes. During a walking city tour, your guide will show you the best Brasov has to offer: ancient city walls, bastions and fortifications, the Black Church, the Black and White watch towers, Town Hall Square, the St. Nicholas Church, the First Romanian School and the narrowest street in Europe - Rope Street. Overnight in your hotel in Brasov.

Day 7: Visit to the Bran & Peles Castles

After breakfast you travel to the village of Bran to visit its iconic Bran Castle known as home to Stoker's Count Dracula. Its mysterious atmosphere and dreadful legends attract numerous tourists and vampire-lovers from all over the world. Whatever its ties to vampires, the Bran Castle itself is well worth a visit as it is the real gem of ancient architecture dominating the surrounding scenic landscapes.The next stop is scheduled in Sinaia mountain resort where you visit the historical Sinaia Monastery and the real miracle of Transylvania, the fairytale Peles Castle - the former royal residence and the first European castle with central heating and electricity.After the tour you are transferred to Bucharest.

Optional dinner: Dinner at the "Caru cu Bere" restaurant - the oldest beer house in Bucharest, where you can taste traditional dishes of the Romanian cuisine and drink homemade beer. Overnight in your hotel in Bucharest.

Day 8: Departure from Bucharest

This is the final day of your tour. After breakfast your driver takes you to the airport for your flight back home.
