After breakfast, set out from Milan and head north toward the foothills of the Alps, taking in the changing landscapes as you leave the city behind.

Scenic stops en route:

• Bergamo Alta – The medieval hilltop old town of Bergamo, reached by funicular, with Venetian walls, cobbled streets, and the beautiful Piazza Vecchia beside the ornate Cappella Colleoni.
• Franciacorta – Rolling vineyard hills south of Bergamo, famous for Italy’s finest traditional-method sparkling wine; ideal for a relaxed cellar visit and tasting.
• Brescia – An underrated city with impressive Roman ruins, a hilltop castle, and the elegant Piazza della Loggia.

Finally, continue onward to Sirmione at the southern tip of Lake Garda.

Arrive in Sirmione, the charming town perched at the southern tip of Lake Garda, known for its medieval castle, thermal springs, and narrow cobblestone streets. After settling into your lakeside hotel, spend a leisurely afternoon exploring the historic center. Wander through the winding streets, discover quaint shops and cafés, and admire the view of the shimmering lake from the Scaligero Castle. Sirmione to Limone sul Garda: Canyons, Cliffs & Lake Views

Enjoy a leisurely morning in Sirmione. After checking out, depart for Limone sul Garda, driving along some of the most spectacular roads of Lake Garda.

Scenic stops en route:

• Salò – An elegant first stop on the western shore, known for its long lakeside promenade, belle époque buildings, and relaxed cafés overlooking the water. Once the seat of Mussolini’s final puppet republic, it now feels simply like one of Lake Garda’s most graceful towns.
• Strada della Forra (SP38), Tremosine sul Garda – One of Europe’s most dramatic roads. It plunges inland through a narrow limestone gorge, passing through rock tunnels, tight bridges, and hairpin bends. Famously featured in Casino Royale, the drive ends on Tremosine’s plateau at the “Balcony of Italy,” where Lake Garda lies far below between towering mountains.
• Gargnano – Back on the lakeshore, this quiet village is perfect for a relaxed break. A small harbour, excellent gelato, and a calm atmosphere make it a peaceful contrast to the busier southern towns.

Continue north along the Gardesana Occidentale, where the road clings to cliffs above the lake, weaving through tunnels and dramatic headlands — a fitting finale to a spectacular drive.

Please note: Strada della Forra is very narrow, with some one-way tunnels regulated by traffic lights. It is unsuitable for wide vehicles and should be avoided in bad weather. Expect tourist motorcycles and slow-moving traffic. Drive carefully and allow extra time to navigate this spectacular but challenging route safely.

After a relaxed morning in Bellagio, check out and depart westward toward Como, following the famous scenic road that hugs the western shore of Lake Como. This winding lakeside route passes charming villages and panoramic viewpoints along the way.

• Como – A natural pause at the lake’s southern tip. A quick walk through the old town, past the medieval walls and the marble cathedral, pairs perfectly with an espresso in a historic café.
• Arona & Southern Lake Maggiore – As Lake Maggiore opens up, the scenery widens to reveal the Borromean Islands and distant Alpine peaks. Arona’s lakefront, watched over by the towering statue of San Carlo Borromeo, is a perfect place to stretch your legs before continuing to Stresa.
