The drive follows the beautiful eastern coastline of Spain, offering glimpses of the Mediterranean Sea, charming seaside towns, and picturesque countryside.

Scenic stops en route:

  • Sitges (~40 min from Barcelona) – Often called the Saint-Tropez of Spain, Sitges is a perfect first stop just south of Barcelona. The dramatic baroque church of Sant Bartomeu i Santa Tecla perches above the seafront, and the Cau Ferrat Museum — former home of artist Santiago Rusiñol — is one of the best small museums on the coast.
  • Tarragona (~1.5 hrs from Barcelona) – continue south to this historic coastal city, home to some of the best-preserved Roman remains in Spain. Highlights include the impressive Tarragona Amphitheatre, dramatically located overlooking the sea.
Don't miss: The Rambla Nova's Balcó del Mediterrani viewpoint and El Serrallo, the old fishermen's quarter where you can have a fresh seafood lunch.

day 6 Valencia

Valencia to Toledo Scenic Route

Today, depart Valencia and travel inland toward Toledo, one of Spain’s most historic cities, dramatically perched on a hill above the Tagus River. Known as the “City of Three Cultures,” Toledo beautifully blends Christian, Muslim, and Jewish heritage within its ancient medieval walls.

Route tip:
This is one of the most scenic and varied drives of the journey. Consider taking the A-3 highway inland via the vineyards of Requena, rather than following the coastline. The route offers changing landscapes and pleasant countryside views. With scenic stops, plan approximately 5–6 hours for the journey.

Scenic stops en route:

  • Hoces del Cabriel Natural Park (~50 min from Valencia) – located near Venta del Moro, this impressive natural park is known for its dramatic river gorge carved through limestone cliffs, often nicknamed “Spain’s mini Grand Canyon.” Practical note: Access roads are narrow but paved. It is advisable to check the park’s official website for any seasonal access restrictions.
  • Alarcón (~2 h from Valencia) — This beautifully preserved medieval village sits atop a hill surrounded by a dramatic bend of the Júcar River. With its fortified walls, quiet stone streets, and the imposing Castillo de Alarcón, the village feels like stepping back in time.
Best for: A relaxed 30–40 minute stop to stroll along the old ramparts, enjoy panoramic countryside views, and photograph the castle dominating the skyline.
  • Mirador del Valle — Before entering Toledo, consider making a short 10-minute detour to this famous viewpoint located on the south bank of the Tagus River. From here you will enjoy the classic panoramic view of Toledo — the cathedral towers, the mighty Alcázar fortress, and the medieval city walls rising above the river gorge below. This is the iconic view often featured on postcards.
Practical note: Parking is usually easy at the viewpoint. The panorama is especially spectacular during late afternoon or golden hour, when the historic skyline is beautifully illuminated.

Driving time: approx. 3.5–4 hours direct (around 380–400 km, depending on the chosen route and stops).

Toledo to Madrid via Warner Bros. World Madrid Scenic Route

This morning, check out from your hotel in Toledo and begin your journey toward Madrid. As you leave Toledo, the landscape gradually changes from the hilltop medieval city and river gorge into the wide Castilian plains, dotted with olive groves, vineyards, and small historic villages, offering a gentle and scenic introduction to the Madrid region.

Route tip: This is the shortest drive of the whole trip — only 75 km — which makes it perfect for a relaxed morning with two excellent stops. No need to rush.

Scenic stops en route:

  • Chinchón (~45 min from Toledo) - One of Spain's most remarkable small towns. Plaza Mayor de Chinchón is a circular medieval square ringed by 234 wooden balconied houses — unique in Spain and often used as a filming location.
Don't miss: The Church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción contains an original Goya painting. The town is also famous for its artisanal anise liqueur — pick up a bottle from one of the small producers on the main street.
  • Aranjuez (~1.5 h from Toledo) - The summer retreat of the Spanish royal family for centuries — a UNESCO World Heritage Cultural Landscape. The Royal Palace is a stunning Renaissance and Baroque complex, but the real highlight is the garden complex: the Jardín de la Isla and the Jardín del Príncipe. This is genuinely one of Spain's great green spaces — 150 hectares of curated gardens along the river, free to enter for the garden areas.
Local food tip: Aranjuez is famous for its strawberries and asparagus — the Mercado de Abastos is worth a quick visit if open.
  • Parque Warner Madrid - Step into a world of thrills and cinematic magic at Parque Warner Madrid, where the action of your favorite movies comes to life! From adrenaline-pumping roller coasters to entertaining live shows, every corner of the park is packed with fun for all ages, featuring iconic characters from Batman, Superman, and Bugs Bunny.
Practical note: Parque Warner is about 25 km south of Madrid city centre on the A-4. After the park, you simply continue north into Madrid.
