Itinerary

Day 1:  Arrival in Vienna

Arrival in Vienna Today you arrive in the European capital of music, the glorious Vienna. Your English-speaking driver in a limousine or minivan (for 6 guests) or an English-speaking driver and guide pick you up at the international airport and transfer to the hotel in the very heart of Vienna in a coach (for up to 16 guests).

Day 2: Vienna Sightseeing Tour 

Sightseeing Tour Following buffet breakfast at the hotel your guide takes you on a 2-hour walking tour through the downtown area of Vienna. You start at the State Opera House and walk through the Kärntnerstrasse (pedestrian zone) to the St. Stephen’s Cathedral (no inside visit). You continue your walk along the Graben und the Kohlmarkt (very exquisite shopping area) to the Hofburg (Imperial Palace), the former winter residence of the Habsburgs.

The Hofburg is composed of several wings in styles that reflect the changes of architecture. In one of the oldest parts, the treasury attracts with a breathtaking display of crown jewels, robes and other insignia of German emperors of the Holy Roman Empire. It also houses Austrian government offices, the Imperial Apartments, Sisi Museum, Imperial Silver Chamber, Austrian National Library, a wonderful congress center, the Imperial Chapel where the Vienna Boys Choir accompany the Holy Masses on Sundays(except for School Holidays)and much more! Actually this area is big enough to explore it as separate tour.

In the afternoon you spend 3 hours exploring the Ringstrasse, with its numerous magnificent buildings, such as the State Opera House, the cultural district Museums Quarter, the Parliament, the City Hall and the Burgtheater, to name a few. You enjoy a unique tour of the Kunsthistorisches Museum(the Museum of Fine Art). Then you visit one of the jewels of Vienna – Schönbrunn Palace! Already the entrance area to the former summer residence gives you a historical impression of the glorious Imperial times. A highlight will be a guided inside visit to the showrooms of the Palace. Time for lunch included.

Note: Routings might be changed to make the tour as interesting and smooth as possible.

Optional activity: In the evening you have an opportunity to enjoy an optional fantastic music concert. In the very place where Johann Strauss himself used to direct his orchestra from the position of first violin, the absolute essence of Vienna’s classical music can once again be heard daily. The Salonorchester Alt Wien, one of the best-known interpreters of classical Viennese music, presents an evening full of charm with the tangling sounds of waltzes, polkas, arias and duets, as well as operetta and piano concerto melodies. Accompanied by excellent opera vocalists and the enchanting ballet soloists, Vienna’s classical music reveals itself as a living firework display for all the senses.

Note: Beginning of concert daily at 08.15 pm. Dinner daily at 06.00 pm. With the concert and dinner package, you can combine the musical delights of the concert in the Lanner Hall of the Kursalon with a delicious gala dinner in the stylish surroundings of the Restaurant Johann.

Day 3: Free Day & Optional Danube Valley Exploration

After a hearty buffet breakfast at the hotel you can enjoy a multitude of Vienna sights or take our recommended optional tour to the Danube Valley (not included).

Note: this tour runs April through November (in winter the boat ride on the Danube is not possible).

Your driver takes you to the west until you arrive at the Abbey of Melk, situated on a rock and overlooking the Danube. You enjoy an inside visit of the Benedictine Abbey, a jewel of Austrian baroque architecture, makes you acquainted with monastic life in former times. You visit the wonderful museum, baroque halls, the amazing library and beautiful chapel. From the terrace you have a magnificent view over the Danube! 

After lunch in a nice local restaurant you cruise along the Danube by boat to Dürnstein, which shows you the most romantic stretch of this second-longest river of Europe. A stroll through the ornate lanes puts you back to the times when Richard the Lion Heart was held captive here. You pass vineyards, orchards, fortresses and castles and hear about the history and the many legends connected with this region, that for its beauty and strategic value always attracted invaders.

From Dürnstein you drive back to Vienna and spend the night at your hotel.

Day 4: Transfer to Prague

Following buffet breakfast at the hotel your driver accompanies you to the train station. First class train tickets for the direct Vienna - Prague train are included.

 Approximate travel time is 5 hours. Upon arrival your private transfer from the train station to your neat Prague hotel is arranged.

Day 5:  Prague Walking Tour

After a good night's sleep in your room you enjoy a finger-licking buffet breakfast in the hotel's restaurant and prepare yourself for an eventful day ahead. In the morning your sightseeing program includes a 3-hour Prague walking tour.

You visit the most significant square of historical Prague originated in the 12th century. It is the place where the 27 Czech gentlemen were executed on 21th June 1621 and where the history of Czech lands was written many times. Beside the Old Town Hall and the Church of Our Lady before Tyn the Square has several other dominants: the baroque St. Nicholas church, the Stone Bell house - a gothic city palace from the 14th century, and the Memorial to Master Jan Hus.

Then you proceed to the famous Prague's Castle Area (Hradschin).

Prague Castle is the largest medieval castle complex in Europe. The Prague Castle, seat of Czech kings throughout the ages, comprises of many buildings, including the gothic St. Vitus Cathedral (Prague's most recognisable landmark), several palaces, a monastery, museums & galleries, observation towers, St. George's Basilica and the enchanting Golden Lane. The relics of the Bohemian kings, the crown jewels, are also kept here at the Prague Castle.

You have the chance to view the Changing of the Guard at the front gates that takes place every hour. At noon the ceremony includes a fanfare. 

In the afternoon you have the chance to enjoy the picturesque scenery during a 1-hour boat ride on the Vltava River. The rest of the day is for you to relax and stroll Prague's streets on your own.

Day 6:  Kutna Hora Tour

In the morning you enjoy breakfast at the hotel and prepare for a 6-hour Kutna Hora tour. 

Following a one-hour ride through the beautiful Bohemian countryside, you reach the stunning town of Kutna Hora, a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site which gained excessive wealth thanks to its prosperous silver mines and became the second most important town in the Kingdom of Bohemia, after Prague. During this great tour you see all of the key medieval and Baroque monuments, including the former central royal mint, the interior of St. Barbara’s Cathedral, as well as the nearby Ossuary which is famous for its elaborate decorations made of human bones.

St. Barbara Cathedral is a jewel of the late Gothic period, and the Cathedral of Our Lady at Sedlec, which was restored in line with the baroque taste of the early 18th century, influenced in their turn the architecture of Central Europe. These masterpieces today form part of a preserved medieval urban fabric with a striking wealth of private homes.

Bone Church is an All Saints Ossuary in the Czech Republic that contains 40,000 dead form morbidly fascinating sculptures and artwork, and skeletons meticulously fashioned in 1870 by a wood carver. 

After lunch you return to Prague and have the rest of the day at your leisure.

Day 7: Departure from Prague
