Greece Travel Tips

Tipping Etiquette

Tipping in Greece is generally appreciated but not always expected. In restaurants and cafes, some establishments include a service charge in the bill, so it's good to check before tipping. If the service charge is not included, a tip of around 5-10% of the total bill is customary, and for exceptional service, you can leave more. You can leave the tip in cash on the table or give it directly to the server. In bars, it is common to round up to the nearest euro or leave small change as a tip. For bartenders providing table service, consider leaving a small tip of 1-2 euros.

For taxis, it is customary to round up to the nearest euro or leave a small tip of around 5-10% of the fare. If the driver assists with luggage or provides exceptional service, a tip of a few extra euros is appreciated. In hotels, tip 1-2 euros per bag for porters who help with your luggage and leave 1-2 euros per day for housekeeping staff. For exceptional service from the concierge, tipping 5-10 euros is appreciated.

For tour guides, tip around 5-10 euros per person for a half-day group tour, and 10-20 euros per person for a full-day tour. For private tours, tip 20-50 euros per day, depending on the length and quality of the tour. At hairdressers and spa services, a tip of 5-10% of the service cost is customary. You can leave the tip in cash or give it directly to the person who provided the service. By following these guidelines, you'll show appreciation for good service and ensure a positive experience for both you and the service providers in Greece.
