UAE Travel Tips

Preparation Checklist

Preparing for a trip to the United Arab Emirates? Hereโ€™s a handy checklist to ensure you have everything you need for a smooth and enjoyable journey. From essential documents to local tips, this guide covers all the key points to help you get ready for your trip.
  • Passport and Visa

Your passport must be valid for at least six months from your arrival date. Citizens of the United States, the United Kingdom, and most EU countries do not need to arrange a visa in advance. They receive a free 30-day visa on arrival, which can be extended once for 30 days. Always check current entry rules before departure, as regulations may change.
  • Travel Insurance

Get travel insurance to cover medical emergencies, cancellations, and unexpected events. If youโ€™re planning outdoor activities, confirm that your policy includes coverage. You can easily do so via our partners at Allianz.
  • Emergency Numbers

Familiarise yourself with local emergency numbers - 999 for police, 998 for ambulance and 997 for the fire department. Additionally, our customer support line is available:
    +1 (954) 787 5105

    +41 55 539 18 88

  • Currency

The local currency is the UAE dirham (AED). Credit cards are widely accepted, but itโ€™s useful to have some cash for taxis, tips, and smaller purchases.
  • Language

Arabic is the official language, but English is widely spoken, especially in cities and tourist areas.
  • Weather & Clothing

Expect hot and dry weather for most of the year. Lightweight, breathable clothing is best, but dress modestly in public places. In malls, mosques, and government buildings, cover shoulders and knees.
  • Electrical Adapters

The UAE uses plug types C, D, and G with a standard voltage of 230V. A universal adapter is useful.
  • Mobile Coverage

Check with your mobile provider about international roaming charges. Prepare for your upcoming trip by purchasing an e-sim plan on the Airalo app. It's a more affordable and convenient option compared to local SIM cards or international fees.
  • Travel Documents

Organize essential travel documents, including flight tickets, hotel reservations, transportation passes, and any tour or activity bookings. Keep copies of important documents such as your passport, travel insurance, and emergency contacts.

You can also download our Firebird App to view all of your trip-related documents and details in one place online or offline! The app is available in both the App Store and Google Play.
  • Local Customs & Etiquette

Respect local traditions, especially during religious periods like Ramadan. Public displays of affection should be avoided, and photography of people without permission is discouraged.
