The capital of Italy, Rome, obtains an unrivaled and unfathomable collection of historical treasures. This safe and welcoming region one of the most popular tourist destinations around the globe.
Upon arrival in Rome, your private driver will transfer you to your hotel. After check-in, meet your guide for a tour of the city's ancient landmarks including the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, Piazza Navona, and more. Admire the masterpieces of renowned artists like Bernini and Borromini. Return to the hotel after the tour and enjoy the evening at leisure.
After breakfast, join your guide for a walking tour of Rome's famous ancient landmarks. Begin at the Roman Forum, a political and civic center dating back 3,000 years. See ancient temples, arches, and buildings like the Temple of Caesar and the Arch of Septimius Severus. Then, visit the adjacent Palatine Hill, site of the city's first settlements. Finally, explore the Colosseum, the largest amphitheater in the Roman world designed for gladiator battles. Return to the hotel in the evening and enjoy the rest of your day at leisure.
After breakfast, you will meet your guide for a transfer to the Vatican, the world's smallest independent state and a walled enclave.
Once inside, your tour will take you through the private apartments of Julius II, Pinecone Courtyard, Gallery of the Maps, Gallery of the Tapestries, and Gallery of Candelabra. Then, you will proceed to the Sistine Chapel, where you will have ample time to admire Michelangelo's famous frescoes and learn about the intense relationship between Pope Julius II and Michelangelo that drove the artist to create the greatest work of art the world has ever known.
After a coffee break, your tour continues in the vast open spaces of St. Peter's Basilica, where you will see a stunning Pieta, a world-famous work of Renaissance sculpture by Michelangelo, and Bernini's impressive Papal Canopy, a legacy left to the Basilica by the Barberini family.
Your tour ends in St. Peter's Square, where you can admire Michelangelo's Dome and the gorgeous colonnades designed by Bernini. From there, enjoy a leisurely walk back to the hotel with your guide, with a photo stop at the legendary Castel Sant'Angelo, originally built as a mausoleum, and later used by the popes as a fortress, refuge, and prison.
Please note that the Vatican is a sacred religious site, and thus the dress code for visiting it is applied just as when you visit any church in Italy: no shorts, no uncovered knees and shoulders, and no backpacks. Due to religious services, St. Peter's Basilica may be spontaneously closed, and entrance may not be guaranteed. After the tour, you have the rest of the day at leisure to explore the beauty of Rome on your own.
Today marks the end of your fantastic tour of Italy. After breakfast, your driver will meet you in the hotel lobby and take you to the airport for your flight back home. We hope you had a great time and wish you a safe journey. We look forward to working with you on your future vacations!
