Flamenco: the National Dance of Spain
Flamenco is an art form, genre of music and dance that originated in the southern regions of Spain. The style of the music emerged as a fusion of the various cultures that have coexisted in the melting pot that was southern Spain at the time and is the legacy of Andalusians, Moors, Castilian settlers, Gypsies, and Jews.
The unforgettable and energetic show of Flamenco is made up of singing, playing the guitar, dancing accompanied by vocalizations and rhythmic sounds of hand-claps and finger snaps. The dance is recognized by its emotional intensity, proud carriage, expressive use of the arms and rhythmic stamping of the feet.
Nowadays flamenco has become popular worldwide and many different styles of this dance have developed. The art is taught in many countries primarily in the US and Japan. What is more, Flamenco has been a UNESCO-declared Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity since November 16, 2010.

One of the most popular and spectacular variations of Flamenco is the Granada Zambra show. And although traditionally Seville is considered as the city of "Pure Flamenco", numerous dance collectives all around the country stage incredible Flamenco dance shows in practically every city of Spain.
