The Norway Royal Palace Experience
One of the most important sites in Norway and a must-visit during Oslo travel is the beautiful Royal Palace. The imposing landmark was built in the first half of the 19th century and is situated on a rise at one end of Oslo's main thoroughfare, Karl Johans Gate.
This is the place where the Norwegian King and Queen live and where the daily work of the monarchy is conducted. It is also the venue for formal events, such as official dinners, and the residence of foreign officials during their visit.
Things to do in the Oslo Royal Palace
The palace is open to the public during the summer season, so you can take a guided tour through the most important rooms (there is a total of 173 of them!).
You can also see paintings of preceding kings and queens. The guides will tell you about Norwegian history, the country's monarchy, and its union with Denmark and Sweden.
Another thing you shouldn't miss out on is watching the changing of the guards ceremony, it's even possible to talk to them, and they are always happy to take a picture with you!
